Installing Kitchen Cabinets Series – Part 7
Now you will need to determine the height of your upper cabinets. This can be done in one of two ways. If you have a tall cabinet, as part of your kitchen package, then you will need to locate the position of the top of the tall cabinet relative to the wall. This is done by measuring the height of the tall cabinet and marking this on the wall at the POINT OF THE HIGH SPOT! That point will also be the height of the top of your upper cabinets. If you don’t have a tall cabinet, you can determine the height of your upper cabinets by measuring up from the floor at the “high spot” location: 34 1/2″ (the height of your base cabient) + the thickness of your installed countertops (usually 1 1/2″) + 18″ (the distance between your countertop and the bottom of your upper cabinet. For standard installations this distance is usually 54″ off of the floor at the point of your high spot. You will need to check with your cabinet supplier and countertop supplier to verify these dimensions.
