Can you recommend good computer programs to make techno with?

I deeply enjoy beautiful techno and want to try making some of my own. I don’t know where to start and don;t have a large wallet, so I need suggestions!

I’ve torrented and installed Hypersonic 2, but it crashed at startup.
It’s for my laptop which is a HP Pavilion ZV6000 with boosted ram. I was able to run eJay without lag, but it seemed too basic for what I’m looking for..
Which programs would you recommend? Serious answers please!

I just torrent "Techno Music Software" on Pirate Bay and it gave me some suggestions.

Ok, I’ll help you out with something basic for you to start with.
Firstly, Fruity Loops 9(brand new version) is great to work around for a beginner, it would also be wise to acquire a tutorial for this to show you some helpful steps to get you on your way.
now your not going to get very far without any samples, try looking for some good packs with one shots such as an assortment of kick drums, snares, claps, high hats, opens hats, percussion etc.
apart from the drums the basslines, leads and general synth sounds are made using plugins/vst’s Virtual Studio Technology, Fruity Loops comes packed with quite a few of these which are quite good if you actually know how to you use these properly, though there are many others out that you can either buy, shareware or like in your case browse through torrents for hehe, some great Vst’s are Nexus, Arturia Minimoog Voyager, Rob Papen Blue, Rob Papen Albino.
take this into account though, try to keep the use of presets within these plugins to a minimal, i know it may be hard at first but in the long run it will help with getting your own unique sounds.
also one MAJOR thing, it is very crucial to have knowledge or learn some basic song structuring, try listening to your favourite tracks and take things into account, there is one thing you will have to learn is the rhythm of most electronic dance music is that it has a 4/4 signature for example "1234, 1234, 1234, 1234" "kick, kick/snare, kick, kick/snare" if you sort of follow me there?
anyway yeah just look through tutorials for more in-depth tips.
    hope that helped!
