what do radio stations require for employment?

I would like to become a radio personality! I have the heart and desire to, but i need help on getting started. I would like to know what it really is that radio stations are looking for. Degree? Experience?

A good voice, good reading skills, good personality, decent appearance and the desire to work crummy hours for low pay. Call your local radio station and see if you can volunteer and work your way into the busines that way. Radio voicing is almost a thing of the past so don’t waste your time getting a degree in media. Volunteer, learn the biz and work a few holidays.

    A voice.

You can start by looking at the radio / media courses they offer at your local community college.

Or go to your favorite radio stations website, and apply to be an intern

Brigitte is mostly right, but a good education is valuable in the system. Nothing does as much good as getting your foot in the door doing menial tasks until you prove you are someone the stations can trust and use. You won’t walk in the door and become a star without paying your dues and working your way up. The education is a boost, and College Radio stations are a great way to get started. I started in college radio 46 years ago and have worked as a DJ, Newsman (both radio and TV) and for the past several years in the engineering side as a result of getting a good grounding in the basics and proving I could be trusted to do the job.
