Dog training is a skill
A good Dog Obedience School and trainers should have the following traits:
• Be able to appreciate the dog and the owner: a dog has emotions and thus, a dog is also able to determine who is for or against it. As a matter of fact, it will develop aggressive behavior if it realizes that its trainer is not friendly. You are therefore advised to show the dog that you appreciate it. You cannot pretend because the dog can smell the hormones of self defense that you will exude when not comfortable with it. A professional school will also appreciate the owner.
• Does not expect quick fix but is ready to mentor: just like in humans, a dog especially the older ones will be able to quickly learn. A professional school will know the tactics to use and also be ready for a long and patient journey of teaching.
• Appreciates other trainer’s school of thought: A professional and a good Dog Obedience School will not wholesomely condemn other trainers and schools. They instead realize that they too can learn from others. The trainer must, however, be confident of what he or she needs to do.
• Trainers are thorough on what they need to know: The only reason why you take your dog a training school is because they are supposed to know better than anyone else. There should be no fumbling about what needs to be taught.
• Well equipped training school: This is important because there should be no movements from one school to another in search of training schools.
• Keeps adding knowledge: Before you select the school or trainer, ask for the improvement training that the trainers have attended. This is essentially significant as this is the only way of assuring that the persons have updated skills and knowledge.
• Does ethical practices: the trainer or the school must abide by the rules that respect the rights of both the dog and the owner.
