Your computer is infected with spyware.
Spyware is a program with the main objective of monitoring users activities. But it can also steal private information, install unwanted software, redirect browsers to other websites than the ones the user wants to visit or even displays advertisements.

You are infected with spyware if:

* You see too much pop-up advertisements.
* Your browser has toolbars that you haven’t installed.
* Your homepage has changed (and you can’t change it back).
* Other settings have changed without your permission.
* Your computer is slow.

To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you have to use an antispyware or even more. You can download free antispyware software from http://www.kiete.com/antispyware.html

Consider this an excellent time to recognize that
your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
    it with one of:

    http://fedora.redhat.com
    http://www.opensuse.org
    http://www.debian.org
    http://www.ubuntu.org
    http://www.slackware.org
    http://www.freebsd.org
    http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they’re
    all free.

    That isn’t a virus, per se…

Your pop-up definitions need to be updated.

Unfortunately, depending on WHERE you obtained the software, you may not be able to download the patches.

    RE, first responder:
Linix is a great alternative to Windows, except that many games (if you’re a gamer) won’t run, and almost without exception, EVERY Linix virus is universally FATAL. Add to that that most of the "reliable" companies don’t write AV software for Linix… Finally, Linix drivers, and patches are about 3-6 months, to a year or more behind the "current" state of things, so the newest software will be buggy. (Has to do with the "don’t put it out until it *works*" mentality of FREEWARE.

My pop-up blocker was purchased in the store on CD, published by the maker, and sold by a licensed distributer… The publisher will not update it because it was not purchased from their website.

Go to start>run>type’msconfig’ press enter. Move to the start up tab and disable everything your not using. Any blank spaces in here should not have a check mark. These are processes that start when windows does. You most likely have an ad-ware program running in the background. You’ll know it when you see it. There is probably a RocketReward folder on there somewhere. Look for it using the search function from the start menu. Delete what you find. Look into getting Spybot Search And Destroy , Ad-Aware and Hijackthis. All these tools should keep you squeaky clean.

I think you need to check your firewall settings go into
options on your toolbar and increase the pop up blocker settings check the pop up blocker is switched on not off
set it to high and see if it works
update all your security programmes and run a full scan
a malware may have slipped through when you first started up until you update

    get
    spybot s&d
    http://www.safer-networking.org
    adaware
    http://www.lavasoft.com
    both are free
get them up todate and do a full scan

you’ve got some spyware/malware on your pc

to some of the other answers
a firewall does not effect pop ups at all, never will
changing to linux or your browser as some have said won;t fix your current problem
