What is the difference between trance and techno music?

Could you give me some examples of trance and some example of techno?

trance:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jHCi7g52U8

(notice the buildup of the tune and how the song is set up. it goes intro, buildup, release, main beat, then outro.)

techno:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejm6jn9AFA0

(notice the high bpm, the repetativeness, and the fact that the song has no buildup, pretty much constant throughout)

What do you listen to when you hear techno or electronic music?

Many times I’ve noticed different friends notice different parts of music. Some people notice the guitar or drums, others always listen to the words, etc. I’ve noticed I pay attention to the manner in which the sounds are manipulated when listening to electro or techno, but my friend swears she only pays attention to bass and words!

I think I’ve learned to listen to all parts individually. My wife noticed that I pick out the little weird sounds in normal music, like weird little background sounds. But with techno kind of music it really depends on the song, some songs I mainly listen to the bassline, others the lyrics, others the synth melodies like keyboard/piano stuff. The melodies can really get me going because thats a big thing I look for in music, like emotional and stuff, if a song just has a certain sound to it that makes it sound emotional, whether happy or sad, I’ll pick up on that mostly.

What is the differance between Techno and electronic?

What is the differance between Techno and electronic? Also, what is the differance between electronic music and electronica? (Electronic with an A at the end.) If there isn’t a difference between electronic and electronica, why do they use both? My MP3 player is getting cluttered with "Techno" "Electronic" "General electronic" and "Electronica" all by the same artist, and I’m just wondering why they are all different.

Electronic Music (or sometimes known as Electronic Dance Music, EDM) is a term used to identify any music using electronic music instruments or technology. Electronic Music is the main genre and everything else are sub-genres. Usually Electronic is not used to describe a single song unless it combines the characteristics of many sub-genres, but I think iTunes and other music players are a bit stupid with the automatic genres they put on. It’s best to edit and put what you want on so it’s not all cluttered.

Electronica is a sub-genre of Electronic. It’s used to identify newer, contemporary music or crossover genres (folktronica, indietronica, funktronica etc). It usually combines different instruments that are not all electronic, with electronic instruments.

Techno is a bit different. Techno is also sub-genre of Electronic. The beats are harder and heavier, and the music is very high-tempo. I think it’s quite easy to identify Techno music by the sound. Scooter are an example band.

Any good techno songs with classical instruments in them?

Do you know any good techno songs with classical instruments (like piano, violin, etc.) in them, i.e. Children by Robert Miles?

The Propellerheads – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

nearly anything from Moby; from the 1999 "Play" album and onward.

How can I make my own techno remixes?

I recently got into techno and rave music. I like Basshunter (alot) and also Darude and Cascada. I also like techno remixes of popular songs (love story by taylor swift, boom boom pow by the black eyed peas) How can I make my own remixes of songs? Do I need certain equipment? And if so, what do I need and where can I find it?

The least you’ll ever need is either Fruityloops (recommended solely for beginners) or Reason 4. You can buy it at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ .

What’s the best program to use to make techno music?

I want a program that already has the beats in it. Like premade tracks waiting to be put in a techno song. I already have mixcraft 4. Or can you tell me how to get tracks for Mixcraft?

Hands down Acid Music (version 3.0) is very easy to use and you can download a ton of loops for it using searches for Fruity Loops, Sony ACID Music Studio (Much harder to use than the version 3.0), and a ton on the web. I have used this to make many songs and it is very user friendly. Since this is an old version, you might find it on EBay or Amazon (but most likely nowhere else!).

I am not familiar with Mixcraft but I have tried products from MAGIX and they eat up way to many resources and don’t have the ease of use like ACID Music 3.X.

Good Luck!

What is a good program for creating techno music?

What is a good program for creating techno and electronic music? It can be shareware, just so long the full version doesn’t cost over $100, preferably below $50. IT can be fairly complicated, just so long as it doesn’t require amazing computer knowledge. It would also be helpful if it had a large selection of voices, and if you could record you humming a tune thing and changing the voice. Thanks!

FL Studio is great for what you are looking for. They have a $99 version, but you can’t record audio with that version. You’d need the Producer Edition which is $199. There is a discount for it though, I’ll give it to you.

Either way, try the demo: http://flstudio.image-line.com/documents/download.html

Quick tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqZgBVx2w_Y

Here’s the discount you can use to save 10% on your first order directly from the developers at Image-Line: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BFHEHAH486

You get lifetime free updates too, so you get FL 9 now, then 10,11, ect years to come as they are released for free. it’s a great and affordable investment. it’s one of the most used music creation programs out there.

have fun
