A big challenge to learning the violin is the fact that there are no markings for musical notes. This means that the violinists will have to adapt using positions. The main positions are first, second, third and fourth. If you are beginning violin lessons then pay attention. These will help a violinists find the correct musical note. Some positions allow the violinist to play a certain range of notes and other positions allow for other notes to be played. Changing positions can result in different fingers playing different notes. At first, beginners violin players my use tape so that they can locate the different musical notes that are on the violin fingerboard. They will then have to know where each note is located without the use of frets, like the guitar.
